About the Property

Glen Gordon Manor is a historic bed and breakfast located in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Originally established as a Wells Fargo stagecoach stop on the Blue Ridge route in the 1860s, the property later became a favored retreat for society balls and fox hunts, drawing visitors including King Edward VIII, whose relationship with Wallis Simpson remains part of the Manor’s history. Today, the property combines restored 19th-century architecture with updated guest suites, quiet grounds, and fine dining.

The Manor features 11 individually designed guest rooms and suites, including the Wallis Suite and the Edward Suite, named for the historic figures tied to the property, and the baronial Hunt Room with its minstrel gallery. Each room features antique furnishings, curated artwork, and updated private baths. Guests can enjoy an outdoor pool, fire pit, gardens, and expansive views of the surrounding countryside. A newly upgraded spa, sauna, and fitness experience is set to debut in early 2027.

Located 90 minutes from Washington, D.C., Glen Gordon Manor is close to Virginia wine country, Shenandoah National Park, Skyline Drive, and the charming communities of Rappahannock County.

Dining

Houndstooth Restaurant is the property’s fine dining destination led by Owner and Executive Chef Dayn Smith.

Houndstooth serves a seasonal, five-course prix fixe menu that combines classic culinary techniques with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Chef Dayn designs every meal around seasonal availability, with each course building on the flavors that come before it.

The restaurant also offers an extensive wine program and an intimate bar and lounge, creating an elegant setting for romantic dinners, celebrations, and special occasions. Houndstooth has earned Wine Spectator’s Best of Award of Excellence for multiple years, as well as a DiRōNA Award of Excellence, recognizing its commitment to exceptional cuisine, wine, and hospitality.

Each morning, guests are treated to a multi-course prix fixe breakfast served in the Manor’s dining room. The meal opens with a warm pastry alongside orange juice and freshly ground coffee, followed by a second course of house-made granola or a seasonal fruit dish, from crepes with berries to spiced baked pears. The entrée always features farm-fresh eggs, courtesy of the Manor’s own chickens.
